Powers is essential

A university professor once told me that a Christian university is only as Christian as the people in it. If the goal is to win and win with quality people and students, then why not invest into those kinds of people and not wellness centers?
To help personify this for you, I present to you Skyler Powers.
Powers is the kind of guy every father wants his daughter to come home with. The kid is smart (graduating summa cumme laude), works hard, performs on the field, and is a "high character guy" and is a strong competitor.
For his career, Powers hit .313 with 19 homers, 96 RBI, 33 doubles, a triple and 83 runs scored. All of this coming as a catcher, a position that is not traditionally viewed for great offensive numbers.
The problem is that we do not have too many of these guys. We limit our resource in trying to find the kinds of people who would flourish in the SBU environment. Then we as a student body sit back and ask why so many athletes get in trouble or why they do not perform at a high level.
A you can see, we need more Skyler Powers.
