In case you missed it the first time around, "Evan Almighty," the spin-off of "Bruce Almighty," surpasses its original and also provides a more Christian focus on family with clean humor.
The modern-day story of the Great Flood stars anchorman turned congressman Evan Baxter. Baxter, played by "The Office's" Steve Carell, is a workaholic and forced to get his priorities straight when God, played by Morgan Freeman ,intervenes.
When Evan moves his family, they all lift up prayers. Evan Baxter prays that he can get closer with his family.
The next morning Baxter wakes up at 6:14 a.m. Throughout the day, he keeps having strange run-ins with Genesis 6:14, including its placement on his license plate and as his office address.
Genesis 6:14 is the verse which commands Noah to build an ark. God appears to him and tells him to build the ark because the flood is coming. At first, Baxter does not listen and asks why God chose a busy man like him to build an ark.
Meanwhile, Baxter starts his first day in Washington and is met by corrupt politician Chuck Long, played by John Goodman, who wants Baxter to co-sponsor a bill for the privatization of more government land.
Baxter agrees so that he can gain popularity and fame, but when Long approaches him for support, Evan is surrounded by a variety of birds.
Throughout the movie, a series of strange events including animals such as raccoons, pelicans and sheep begin to flock around Evan, concerning lawmakers and Long alike. Evan's physical appearance changes as well. He grows a beard that will not disappear.
Baxter realizes the futility of his own stubbornness and decides to build the ark.
The rest you will have to go see in the theatre to find out the ending.
This tale of "epic proportions" involves a man who loves his family, has the task of displaying integrity in a corrupt Washington and who must learn to listen to God.
Though not completely Biblically accurate, this movie is sure to bring laughter to its audience.
Also starring in "Evan Almighty" is Lauren Graham ("Gilmore Girls"), Wanda Sykes and Molly Shannon.
Evan Almighty is currently playing at The Palace in Springfield. Runtime is 95 minutes. It is rated PG for mild rude humor and some peril.
