Twelve new faculty members have joined SBU, with all but two teaching on the main campus.
Two new faculty members joined the College of Science and Mathematics. Mark Kellogg, a 2007 graduate of SBU, is now a lecturer of Chemistry and Physics. One of his goals this year is to make the science labs more than just a learning experience for students.
"I want them to look back on it as an enjoyable experience," said Kellogg.
Along with Kellogg, Dr. John Murphy is the new assistant professor of Biology.
Two professors joined the College of Business and Computer Science. Instructor of Business Administration Tom Stevens graduated from SBU in 2002 and is excited to teach at his alma mater.
"It's fun to teach at a place where there is a distinct mission emphasis," said Stevens. Stevens plans to pursue a Doctorate degree in Economics while teaching here and is interested in pursuing academic and cultural relationships with Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Jenell Wagner is also a graduate of SBU (1986). She received her Masters of Accountancy at Missouri State University in 1997.
"I am excited about the smaller class sizes and the Christian atmosphere," said Wagner.
A new faculty addition to the Intercultural Studies Program is Dr. Kelly Malone.
Malone and his family have just moved from Japan where he and his wife have lived for 15 years as career missionaries.
"I'm excited to interact with the students at SBU, to teach as well as learn. I'm excited to grow spiritually with them," said Malone.
One of his goals this year is transitioning back to the United States.
"After living in a country (Japan) for so long, coming back to the United States is like coming to new place," said Malone.
Malone and his family are currently living in Plaster Hall until they can find a permanent residence.
Joining the faculty as well are Andrew Campbell, assistant professor of Music; Grant Cochran, instructor of Graphic Design; Dr. Kendall Honea, associate professor of Physical Therapy; Dr. James Truelove, associate professor of Education; Gina Whitehead, instructor of Health, Physical Education and Recreation; Libby Sanders, instructor of Education; and Donna DepeƩ, instructor of Education.
Sanders and DepeƩ both will be teaching at the Mountain View campus though Sanders will also be teaching at Salem.
As the semester progresses, students will have the chance to get to know their new fellow students and professors.
