Peavey is proud of his accomplishments at SBU, in particular the students he brought to the University.
"We gave our players a hope and plan for life after football," said Peavey. "We gave them our homes, spiritual guidance, and adult mentorship on what God has planned for them the rest of their lives."
In the interim, SBU has promoted Allen to Interim Head Football Coach. Allen was an Assistant Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator for the Bearcats since 2005. He has been an assistant coach at the Division I level at Oklahoma University, Texas Christian University, Northeast Louisiana University and San Jose State University.
Allen received a degree from Oklahoma University in Civil Engineering in 1997 and received his Masters of Arts in Liberal Arts from TCU in 2000.
"We are excited that Keith has accepted this role, and we are confident that he and his staff will bring quality leadership to all facets of the football program, not limited to the playing field, but extending to the student-athletes' academic, social, and spiritual growth in accordance with the principles and expectations of Southwest Baptist University," said Brent Good in a statement released by the University in June.
The MIAA and SBU have announced SBU will go independent in football only starting in 2008. This means this season will be SBU football's last in the MIAA before playing an independent schedule next season.
The SBU football team will try to rebound from a 1-10 season last year to build towards the future. The season started Thursday against Harding University in Searcy, Ark. Results of the game were not available at the time of print.
The first home game for the Bearcats is scheduled for Sept. 22 against Missouri Southern.
