Last weekend newly elected leaders of Student Government Association (SGA) and University Activities Council (UAC) met together to decide how the restructure of the two organizations will work.
UAC is aiming to seek out and find the interests of the student body and then plan activities accordingly.
SGA is an organization focused on making changes that the student body wants to see on campus and implementing new ideas students have for the campus.
One thing Student Government worked on last year was getting a new washer and dryer plan in the dorms, and with the collaboration of the administration, the dorms have a much better system.
There are many more projects on the horizon for this school year such as new sub-committees.
These sub-committees include: student affairs, campus beautification, safety and security and community relations.
Even though the two organizations are very different in content, both groups have come together to create goals so that this will be a smooth transition year into the new organizations.
Two main goals are to have clear communication between organizations and to be very intentional in seeking to find out what the students want.
SGA is here for the students, so any changes or ideas for the campus can be sent via email to sga@sbuniv.edu or brought to the SGA office in Goodson Student Union.
Southwest Baptist University is made up of the student body, so to make changes, students have to come together and take action. It is the job of the leaders in SGA to be a voice to the administration.
SGA is open to any student. Meetings are every Monday at 6 p.m. in Davis Theater, inside Goodson Student Union.
Immediately following the SGA meeting at 7 p.m. is the University Activities Council meeting.
As leaders of SGA and UAC, we look forward to seeing more students at both meetings, and we are also looking forward to a great year where we get changes done on campus.
