Mary Hopwood, Southwest Baptist University graduate, dreamed of opening a Christian bookstore, but the opportunity never presented itself until last month.
The bookstore actually started simply as a frame shop, but four days before opening day, the plans expanded to include the bookstore.
Mary, along with her husband Mark, located a supplier and were able to have the books by the following Monday.
"God opened the door for the whole thing; we didn't want to pass up a good thing," said Mark.
Even though it has only been in business for four weeks, the Hopwoods see a steady increase in sales.
We Frame It and More offers a wide selection in books and music.
It includes Bibles, reference materials, devotional books, Christian fiction, as well as books for women, men, youth and children.
The bestsellers so far have been children's books and Christian fiction books. They are also able to order any Christian book that is desired.
Even though they have a limited amount of music, they are looking to quickly expand the selection.
The Hopwoods considered Bolivar an ideal location for a Christian bookstore.
The previous bookstore had gone out of business several years ago and andother had not taken its place.
Residents have been forced to travel to Springfield if they needed any Christian material.
The locals had indicated to Mary and Mark the growing need and desire to have a Christian bookstore in Bolivar. Though the financial benefits aid the business, Mark carefully noted that it was not his main objective.
"The Christian bookstore is here as a ministry for Bolivar," said Mark.
We Frame It and More plans to have a grand opening in conjunction with the Bolivar area businesses Christmas festival in the first part of November.
By then the Hopwoods hope to have the outside of the store renovated as well as a larger selection of books and music.
The bookstore is also in the stages of developing a SBU student discount and anticipate having it in place in the near future.
Although business is small right now, Mark is not concerned about sales.
Between advertisement and word of mouth, business will soon pick up for the store.
The bookstore is located at 218 W. Jackson and is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
