One student involved in the class is a freshman that earned a nursing scholarship.
Another is a junior who attended the Leaders Training Course (LTC).
"[The LTC] is something like basic training where a student can get a good taste of what the military is likeā¦again without the obligation," said Love.
Currently, six students are enrolled in the SBU course, and some students take higher-level courses at Missouri State University in Springfield. ROTC courses are offered at SBU, Missouri State University, Evangel University and College of the Ozarks.
"We have a total of 57 contracted cadets with over 100 just taking courses for electives," said Love.
Next semester, a military science 102 course will be offered ,and next fall, MS 101 and 201 courses may be available.
"Our goal of the course is to produce officers for the military," said Love. "We hope that we are offering an avenue for students who are interested in the military to attain a commission in the Army to help lead 'America's finest.' For those who take the course but do not decide to pursue a commission, we are just trying to make them better leaders in whatever their future holds."
