Due to increased demand, the Meyer Wellness and Sports Center now offers childcare from 4 to 5 p.m. during an aerobics class.
This service is implemented to help faculty, staff and community members work out without worrying about their children. The Bolivar YMCA also offers childcare, and Southwest Baptist University is stepping up their game.
The childcare services will make the Meyer Wellness and Sports Center more accessible to those who have children and is necessary during 4-5 p.m. since that is the time when most non-students are using the facilities.
"Most students come and work out early in the afternoon and later at night, while from 4-5 p.m. most of them are at dinner," said Director of the Meyer Wellness and Sports Center J.D. Lynch.
He went on to say the childcare is a trial run to see if it is successful, also noting that it is an opportunity for early childhood education majors to earn class credit.
The Meyer Wellness and Sports Center offers to all students and members a 25 yard lap swimming pool, weight/fitness room, rock climbing wall, indoor track, four racquetball courts and an intramural gym with basketball courts.
Lynch expressed that the Meyer Wellness and Sports Center was built for more fitness awareness and supports any place around Bolivar that offers these essential services.
The childcare is offered in the fitness area and no more expansion of the service is foreseen.
