Bearcats fall late to Harding

SBU to take on Division I-AA Southeast Missouri State Saturday

A one-yard touchdown run by Ardell Briggs with 32 seconds left in the game gave Harding University a late 43-40 win over Southwest Baptist University Aug. 30. The loss denied SBU their first road win since 2005. "It goes back to what I said in pre-season," said Interim Head Football Coach Keith Allen.

In the summer of 2000, St. Louis Cardinals' pitcher Rick Ankiel had one of the brightest futures in the game of baseball. He was 21 years old (the second youngest player in the majors that year) and was second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting.

On October 8, 1999, a win against Ouachita Baptist put the Southwest Baptist University Lady Bearcats Volleyball Team to 9-9, they stood at .500. Volleyball has not been .500 since that moment in time, until 2007. After 1,140 miles of traveling, two tournaments and many sleepless nights and tired days; the SBU Lady Bearcats stand at 3-5.

Can Southwest Baptist University be this week's Appalachian State? No, really, can they? I threw this question out to a few people just to gauge their initial reactions. Each gave a stunned look of disgust as if I had just tainted the memory of the "supposed" greatest upset in college football history.

The Cardinals cannot make the playoffs again ... Can they?

As I type this, the St. Louis Cardinals are exactly one game behind the Chicago Cubs for the National League Central division lead. They are also exactly one game over .500 for the year. Everybody knows the Cardinals slipped into the playoffs last year with a slightly above average record and went on to win the World Series.
