'Mondays with Dane and Dave':
Students use comedy to deliver Chapel annoucements

Junior Dane Cockrell, a biblical studies major, and senior David VanBebber, mass communications major, have become the new voices of 10 a.m., with their video of campus announcements airing before the chapel service begins once a week.
The announcements, formatted into a show called 'Mornings with Dane and Dave' have given the pre-Chapel announcement ritual a facelift with humorous skits, followed by a few minutes of information about University activities from concerts and events to class elections and scheduling.
One video began with Cockrell dressed as a military officer interrogating a frightened VanBebber.
Another featured the two as hosts of a beauty pageant interviewing a seemingly clueless contestant.
The two jokingly concocted a story of how this project started.
"Well, I was living in Springfield in a refrigerator box," said VanBebber. "I was wearing glow-in-the-dark contacts that someone had dropped into my McDonald's cup."
"I was riding a bike my grandma gave me, handing newspapers out around five a.m," said Cockrell. "I looked in this box and saw this figure that was shivering. Its eyes were glowing. It was Dave. He was having a really rough time back then, but then we grew as friends. Now he's down from three cartons to three packs a day."
In fact, the project had its genesis last year when senior Zach Henderson, Student Government Association publicity chair, shared with VanBebber the need for someone to do ongoing publicity for the organization.
VanBebber was willing, but was not sure how long he would be around to continue the video series.
"I thought, who can I get that knows a lot of people?" said Van Bebber. "Dane Cockrell popped into my head, and I thought, 'He's a popular guy an he'll be here for awhile.'"
