Southwest Baptist University students were let down by a rainstorm. The University Activities Council (UAC) tried to brighten a somewhat dull weekend for students by holding Summerfest. This activity was meant to be used as a form of entertainment for students spending their weekend on-campus.
Some returning students may have noticed the changes that have taken place in Goodson Student Union. Many students have waited in long lines to use the bathrooms right outside Mellers Dinning Commons. There is no longer a need to wait in line with the newly renovated bathrooms.
Many students of Southwest Baptist University choose to stay active by participating in various intramural sports offered throughout the year. The intramural sports seasons got off to a great start this fall. For the first eight weeks, students participate in a flag football league.
The student body of Southwest Baptist University did not gather as one unified body in Pike Auditorium for Chapel Monday morning, but it split up according to class to complete the business of choosing the Homecoming court. The freshmen class met in Pike Auditorium.
Like many universities, the forum is the focal point of the campus. This is the same at Southwest Baptist University. Everyone who steps on our campus comes into contact with the Burnidge Memorial Forum. This forum is often the first place prospective students see when they enter the campus.
Southwest Baptist University will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with several activities starting Sept. 26. Organized by the Multicultural Student Services Program, the month of activities seeks to encourage students to learn about other cultures. "Our goal is to educate all students about the Hispanic culture," said Amy Welch, Multicultural Program coordinator.
No one wants to gain the freshman, or upperclassman, fifteen. Taking fitness classes at the Meyer Wellness and Sports Center can help keep off those unwanted pounds. Fitness classes are offered each day during the week. There are plenty of opportunities to fit any busy schedule.
Chapel on Monday featured the Southwest Baptist University Missions and Ministries staff along with leaders of upcoming mission trips. They announced the nine mission opportunities for spring and summer 2008. During spring break, teams will be going to El Salvador, Brazil and Tucson, Ariz.
