The student body of Southwest Baptist University did not gather as one unified body in Pike Auditorium for Chapel Monday morning, but it split up according to class to complete the business of choosing the Homecoming court.
The freshmen class met in Pike Auditorium. Sophomores herded into Meyer Recital Hall. The junior class gathered in Davis Theater, and the seniors congregated in Goodson Student Union. Each class had the specific task of deciding on who would represent the classes on this year's Homecoming court.
The princesses include freshman Claire Dale, sophomore Erin Boyd and junior Sarah Edwards. The candidates for Homecoming queen are seniors Crystal Chesnut, Rachel Kimrey, Ashley Herod, Atefeh Heirary and Kristen Blinzler.
While Homecoming princesses were chosen during class chapel, all students will be able to vote for Homecoming queen Wednesday, Sept. 26. Director of Student Life Zach Waters expects online voting to be available this year.
"If all goes well, we hope to give students a chance to vote for Homecoming queen online," said Waters. "They would have to log on through Blackboard, and they would cast their votes."
The Homecoming queen will be announced during halftime of the Homecoming football game Oct. 6 against Truman State University.
Homecoming week falls on the week of Oct. 1-6, and this year's theme is "There's No Place Like Home: Follow the Purple Brick Road." Students can expect the annual events like bed races, a volleyball tournament, talent show and pep rally with some new twists.
