This activity was meant to be used as a form of entertainment for students spending their weekend on-campus.
The motivation behind Summerfest was the "hope to pull people out of the dorm room," said Jared Kathcart, UAC campus activities chair. "But the rain hindered that."
Although the event did not run as smoothly as first planned, it was still a success. Summerfest was scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8.
The event was planned on the Burnidge Memorial Forum and surrounding areas from 1 to 5 p.m. The event did end early around 4 p.m., so only an hour was lost.
Prior to the beginning of the event was a free BBQ.
After the BBQ, the scheduled activities were boccie ball, croquet, a giant slip-n-slide and a badminton tournament at 3 p.m.
Due to the rain two of the summer games were canceled, but the slip-n-slide and badminton still took place.
Junior Andy Sander was the winner of the badminton tournament and won a $25 gift card to Wal-Mart. This was the only prize given away since the other games were canceled.
There were about 50 people who came to Summerfest.
The event was paid for with a percentage of the student activities fee that is included in each student's tuition.
"The money is used to have activities where students can have fun," said Kathcart.
UAC has more events planned for this year with many prizes to be given out.
