Many students have waited in long lines to use the bathrooms right outside Mellers Dinning Commons. There is no longer a need to wait in line with the newly renovated bathrooms.
Staring in late May the Physical Plant went to work on the restrooms. The women's restroom now has five stalls. Two new sinks were added for a total of four.
The men's restroom now has two stalls, three urinals and four sinks. Both restrooms have new ceramic tiles on the floors and the walls.
"One of the major reasons for the renovation is the events held in Mellers Dinning commons," said Bob Glidwell, director of Physical Plant. "There was not enough space".
Also added was a storage closet for Fresh Ideas to use for overflow of their banquet equipment and fixtures. A closet was also added for the game room to use for supplies.
In the game room an office was built, adding a window for office workers to check items out to students.
The tiles at the entrance way in front of Mellers Dining Commons leading to Mabee Chapel were also replaced. The tiles were laid with a similar theme as the tiles in Mellers Dining Commons. This was all done to make the area more enticing.
"Once we got started with one thing, all the rest just fell into place," said Glidwell.
The total renovations cost $70,000.
The internet kiosks that were in the area of the bathroom renovation will remain where they are now, outside the main entrance to Mellers Dining Commons, and will be back in use.
The new television in Goodson Student Union was provided by two donations, one from the Parents Association and the other from a private donor.
The TV that is currently mounted above the fireplace is a 47 inch temporary unit and will be replaced by a 55 inch unit.
It is wired not just for cable but also for power point presentations and activities, such as movie nights.
In the next phase of the Goodson Student Union renovation, Student Life would like to add another television in the kiosk area outside Mellers Dining Commons, as well as provide screens to view messages and news about campus events.
