The discounts to students began when Missouri State University contacted the owner of Cody's looking for a convenience store to partner with in order to get discounts for their students. Kevin Buening, category/marketing manager for the company says that because the program was so successful, they decided to offer it to other universities.
"We now offer discounts to not only Missouri State and SBU but also to Evangel University, Drury University, Ozarks Technical Community College and College of the Ozarks," said Buening. "Cody's realizes that the average college student is always looking for any financial help they can find, and in these days of higher fuel prices, our intent is to help students with their fuel cost."
To receive the discount, students should pump their fuel and then go inside the store to pay.
Students should show their student ID before presenting payment, and the discount would be given. If the store requires customers to prepay, the discount will be taken off when the customer presents payment.
"We are happy and proud to be able to offer this program to the students and faculty of [SBU]," said Buening.
Cody's has also partnered with the SBU Athletic Department to help with fund-raising. If code 7777 is entered when customers visit the store's car wash, a $1 donation is made to the Athletic Department.
Bolivar is home to two Cody's Convenience Stores: one at 3303 W. Broadway (intersection of Highways 32 and 13) and at 2565 S. Springfield Avenue (next to Wal-Mart).
The three-cent per gallon discount is available at all Cody's locations.
