It was a beautiful, clear day for soccer and the Southwest Baptist Lady Bearcats made an even clearer statement, they are for real and only getting better. The 'Cats came out and dominated the game from the beginning.
They took the lead on Northwest Missouri in the 29th minute when junior Amber Vasquez put a flick on a beautiful pass from sophomore Caitlin Tull and the ball found the back of the net.
Southwest Baptist continued to dominate and put the game out of reach early in the second half.
In the 62nd minute sophomore Vanessa Roher put the Bearcats up 2-0 when she bulged the back of the old onion bag with a header off of the beautiful cross from Vasquez.
Just seconds later freshman Dominie Emmanuel put a shot in the lower right hand corner of the goal to put Southwest Baptist up 3-0.
After that Southwest was able to bring in some substitutions and rest some of their starters for an important conference game against Truman State on Saturday.
Head Coach Ben Wade was very pleased with his team's effort.
"This is exactly what we needed," said Wade. "With Truman coming in tomorrow, it was a good thing for us to be able to rest our starters."
Earlier in the week, the coaching staff spent over 36 hours preparing DVD's for each girl on the team.
"The DVDs were designed to breakdown the girls weaknesses and show them what we as coaches were trying to get across," said Wade. "I don't want the girls to just play to their ability, I want to see them exceed their ability and have great success."
Wade was extremely pleased with the second half play of his midfield, especially Tull and Roher.
"I though they were great in the second half," said Wade. "They were in tight spaces and some of the lanes they saw and passes they made in tight windows were incredible."
