This is the peak time of the school year for Student Government events.
Wednesday, Sept. 26 was an action packed day of events.
Starting at 7:30 a.m. Student Government and Fellowship of Christian Athletes hosted See You at the Pole.
About 75 people showed up on our campus to join in praying for our nation, the school, leaders and other topics that were on students hearts.
Following See You at the Pole, Southwest Baptist University's first ever online election became available. Starting at 8:00 a.m. students were able to vote for the 2007 Homecoming Queen by logging on to blackboard. Online voting concluded at 6 p.m. On-line voting seemed to be successful and more accessible for students.
Beginning at 10 a.m. in the Student Union, Student Government and Christian Service Organization hosted the annual Southwest Baptist University Blood Drive. Exact numbers on the amount of donors are not in, but it seemed to be a large turn-out of students, faculty/staff and community members that gathered together to give blood.
The major upcoming event for Student Government is Hispanic Grocery Bingo. Grocery store bingo was a big hit last spring.
About 250 students showed up to play bingo last year, and nearly everyone walked away with some type of food item.
Since the students showed interest in this activity, we decided to do it again.
The twist is that this year it is part of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The bingo time will be themed for Hispanic Heritage month, everything from the bingo cards to free chips and salsa to everyone who shows up.
It will be held at 9 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 10 in Goodson Student Union. Hispanic Grocery Bingo is free to all SBU students.
For those new to the grocery store bingo concept, when a person wins, they win groceries. The prizes range from frozen lasagnas, sweet tea, spaghetti with the fixings and cookies. This will be a fun event to learn new Spanish phrases while at the same time stock your room with food.
