"They need people to help out," said Gipson. "Since we are retired we have more time to volunteer."
"This is important. Everyone needs blood," said Bevier.
The blood drive also relied on many SBU student volunteers. CSO was in charge of organizing this aspect of the event.
Senior Hollie Aeschbacher has volunteered her time the last three years.
Her role this year was to carry the blood bags from the donator to the designated table.
She also served as an encourager to the blood donators during the process.
"I like to help out," said Aeschbacher. "I like the aspect of volunteering, not just donating blood."
Last fall 157 donations were made. The goal this year was to make that number increase to 200.
SBU holds three blood drives every year. The next two will be Feb. 6 and April 2, 2008.
While students are only allowed to donate every eight weeks, they are encouraged to look for other blood drives held throughout the year.
There are many opportunities to give blood or volunteer, such as at different churches and the local library as well as the donor center in Springfield.
Students interested in volunteering their time for future blood drives should contact CSO for information.
For more information on donating blood, contact the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks at (417) 227-5000 or visit the Community Blood Center's website www.cbco.org.
