Student dies in car accident Sept. 23

Soutwest Baptist University senior Kris Beasley died in a car accident Sunday, Sept. 23.
Beasley and senior Rebecca Cook were involved in a one-vehicle accident at 3:40 p.m. on U.S. 60, five miles east of Van Buren.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol report, the 2005 Ford driven by Cook ran off the left side of the road, overcorrected and overturned. Beasley, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle.
He was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, were he died around two hours later. Cook was taken to Poplar Bluff for treatment of serious injuries. Cook was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Beasley, a criminal justice major, was set to graduate in December. His parents, Philip and Pamela serve as missionaries in Thailand.Beasley's sister, Megan, is a graduate student at SBU.
Cook is expecting to graduate in December with a degree in physical education (K-12). She is also a member of the SBU softball team.
Visitation was held Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. The funeral was Thursday afternoon at First Baptist Church of Lathrop.
Cook, Beasley's girlfriend, shared a testimony at his funeral, even though she was had just been released from the hospital.
Dean of Students Rob Harris announce that the SBU family will have an opportunity to honor the life of Beasley in a memorial service to be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, in Meyer Recital Hall in the Geneva Casebolt College of Music.
All members of the SBU community are invited to attend the service which will be officiated by Kurt Caddy, director of University Ministries.
