On Monday, Oct 1, Students filed into Blair Intramural Gym to start off the Homecoming week with a bang.
Students met the members of the University's fall sports teams and were involved in different activities to show their spirit and to try to earn dorm points.
The students were introduced to the volleyball, women's soccer, cross country and football team.
Team members had the chance to express gratitude for the support students have shown them this year and to let the campus know that they are always needing support for future games as well.
The night then progressed to the competitions between the dorms.
As the night went on, the students participated and showed their dorm spirit by engaging in fun activities.
These activities included a candle and water game, a frozen t-shirt game, a toilet paper game and a plastic wrap relay.
The events left the crowd both cheering for and laughing with their friends and peers.
Meeting the players gave students an opportunity to not only show their school and dorm spirit, but also to get involved.
"It was a lot of fun," said freshman Rachelle Worseley.
At the end of the night, Leslie was the winner in the overall competition in dorm points.
This year the University Activities Council held a volleyball tournament Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 9 p.m. on the sand volleyball court near Landen Hall.
"I love volleyball and bonding," said junior Amy Badder.
Teams began forming and warming up around 8 p.m. on the court. Seven teams registered with University Activities Council Major Events Chair Becca Koe, sophomore.
She said at the tournament held in 2006 twelve teams participated.
The teams this year included Fried Rice, Sets on the Beach, Chinchillas, We Dig Balls, Jesus Freaks, Ironmen & Ladies and Peanut Butter.
Each team was required to have at least two boys and two girls on the court at all times. It was a six on six tournament. Teams played rally scoring to 15 with the best two out of three and single elimination.
"I thought it was a great time during Homecoming week," said senior Lauren Hodson.
The cool weather made the evening ideal for an outdoor sand volleyball game.
Winners of the tournament were sophomores Stephen Lancaster, Beth Prock, Becca Jared and Vanessa Rohr, junior Dane Cockrell and Student Activities Director Zach Waters. Team We Dig Balls each received a blinking light.
