Theatre department presents "Timeless" season

The musical takes place in a Jewish village in Russia in the 1905.
The play focuses on traditions, both the importance of tradition and the needs and benefits of change.
It shows how tradition has value and supports beliefs and how sometimes tradition no longer works.
"Fiddler on the Roof" has a cast of 35 people. The cast is already in the process of rehearsing the music and will begin rehearsing the dance for the musical at the beginning of the spring semester.
"I like the way both [main stage] shows engage both the happy and sad parts of life," said Sartwell.
The final production of the 2007-2008 school year will be "'Night Mother." This will be the most serious of all the season's productions. Auditions for "'Night Mother" will be early in the spring semester and any female student intereestd, who has an eligible GPA will be allowed to audition.
This is the only student showcase this year and will be directed by senior Shana McCoy. For this production, the audience seating will be moved up onto the stage to create a more intimate setting with the actors playing the parts. This will cut seating down from 298 to only 50-60. The prices for "'Night Mother" are the same as the prices for "Little Woman."
The reason for the raise in the cost for student tickets from last year, is competitive pricing. SBU Theatre Department charges the least of all the area universities and receives no profits from the ticket sales. All students who purchase their tickets 24 hours before the show will still receive a $1 coupon for the concession stand.
The second Bible verse the Theater Department selected to describe this year's season is "I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living plenty or in want. I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength," Philippians 4:11b-14.
