Alpha House has been a staple in Bolivar since 1989 when First Baptist Church in Bolivar opened it in the white house across the street.
The organization began as a ministry of First Baptist Church in order to lead women to Christ and offer hope when life seems hopeless.
Now Alpha House is a non-profit organization located on Albany Street in Bolivar.
Alpha House provides counseling as women go through unplanned pregnancies, when thinking about having an abortion or when they have had an abortion and are suffering from post-abortion trauma.
Alpha House is ready to give support wherever needed and is abounding in grace for women and their children, whether born or unborn.
The volunteers at Alpha House are receptionists, nurses, mentors and friends.
The educational team at Alpha House travels to schools and churches discussing the importance of abstinence, healthy relationships and the difficulties, both physically and mentally of abortion.
One of the major contributors to the success of Alpha House are the people who minister there. Sara Nuxoll, resident director at Leslie Hall also works part-time at Alpha House.
She is the director of client service and oversees the education team.
Nuxoll attended Southwest Baptist University and graduated in December of 2004 with a degree in Sociology and Social Work.
In the summer of 2004, she began her internship at Alpha House.
With her internship complete, Nuxoll began working as the resident director of Leslie Hall, but it was not until March 2006 that she came to work at Alpha House.
She is in charge of all client programs and services, which are growing, and supervises the educational team.
As we talked of all the things that go on at the Alpha House, Nuxoll was so excited at the way God moves each day, no matter how big or how small.
She recalled a phone call with a woman who was in need of a crib. Just a few minutes after that call, another woman came in saying that she had an extra crib if the Alpha House needed it.
