Randy Arnett graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in religion and communications from SBU in 1978.
He later received a D.Min. degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1996. Arnett married Kathy (Gage) Arnett (SBU '78) in 1978. The couple has two children: Bevin (a senior at SBU) and Jillian (a junior at SBU).
Arnett pastored at two churches in Missouri from 1980-86 and has been serving with the International Missions Board in Africa since 1987.
He has been the regional leader of West Africa for the IMB since 2004.
"I am honored and grateful to be here especially when you consider the hundreds of alumni who are more deserving of this award," said Arnett. "I accept it in the spirit in which you have presented. I am humbled."
James Hackney is an SWBC graduate, class of 1948. He received an Associate of Arts degree in history and later received his D. Min. from Luther Rice Seminary in 1978.
He married Marjorie (Gable) Hackney (SWBC'48). The couple has three children: David, Carol and Douglas.
Hackney served as pastor of several churches since 1953. He also served the Missouri Baptist Convention (1962-64). From 1993-2001, he served the Florida Baptist Convention.
In addition to these posts, Hackney had the honor of serving on the Missouri Governor's civil rights commission.
"It is with great joy and a sense of humility that I accept the Life Service Award of Southwest Baptist University," said Hackney. "I am certainly undeserving compared with many graduates I have known and heard of through the years."
The Life Service Award will be presented to Hackney, Weaver, Dorth and Arnett during Honors Chapel in Pike Auditorium at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5.
Honors Chapel will also feature the presentations of several other awards including the Edwin Lightfoot Distinguished Alumni Award and Global Ambassador Awards.
The Life Service Award was established in its current form in 1955 and is the highest award the University can bestow upon an alumnus or alumna.
