The SBU chapter of SIFE is nationally recognized winning competition in 2006.
This statement might sound familiar to most students. Many people on campus have heard about SIFE.
Many of the economic workshops held on campus every year are organized and promoted by SIFE.
Junior Jillian Arnett is the president of SIFE this year. She is an international business major with a minor in communications and leadership.
"I [got involved with SIFE] initially because of the extra credit," said Arnett. "I did a computer class and got hooked. I realized how it helps the community. SIFE is a community service; we're here to serve the community."
Senior Holly Stockard is the Vice President. She is a communications/public relations major with a minor in Intercultural Studies.
"I like the projects," said Stockard. "We don't just stay on campus. We touch children as well as elderly. We have a widespread impact."
Stockard pointed out that a business major is not necessary to be involved with SIFE.
"You don't have to be a business major," said Stockard. "Any major can come in and learn. Education majors could help out with the classroom activities, such as Risky Business. It can encompass all majors."
These two ladies are helped by junior Matt Clair, treasurer and senior Levi Bridge, secretary.
Clair is an economics, finance and international business major, and Bridge is a marketing major.
"SIFE is a group of servant leaders," said Bridge.
"We're preparing servant leaders in a global society," said Clair.
Although SIFE is mainly here to serve the Bolivar community, there is also a competition SIFE members compete in each year.
"We get to go and show other colleges and universities what we have done in the past year," said Arnett.
Members present an annual report as well as a Power Point presentation to judges who then decide if the group is good enough to go to the national competition.
Also at this event members have the opportunity to speak with companies interested in hiring SIFE members for future job opportunities.
"This is a great networking tool," said Arnett.
SIFE meets every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Graduate Studies Area in the Taylor National Free Enterprise Building.
Students of all majors are encouraged to attend.
