Students paraded into Pike Auditorium donning their dorm shirts, waving flags and making some noise Wednesday, Oct. 3 as this year's Spirit Chapel commenced.
Major Events Chair sophomore Becca Koe explained the organization of the Spirit Chapel to the spirited crowd before introducing the Southwest Baptist University Spirit Squad who blew the audience away with their dance moves.
After Spirit Squad, Maupin Hall took the stage, and after some technical difficulties brought SBU students the song and dance "My Little Maupin Hall," based off of the performance of "My Little Buttercup" by Steve Martin and Martin Short in the movie "The Three Amigos."
Plaster Hall then showed off the talent within it's halls with an electric guitar solo, dance and an appearance by senior Jeremiah Pearson as Jesus accompanied by Plaster men dressed as angels.
Memorial Hall women followed Pearson's Jesus with their rhythm skills and chants about their love of Southwest Baptist University and Memorial Hall.
After Memorial Hall, several Landen Hall residents took their places dressed in black tights and reenacted their rendition of a song and dance from the movie "Robin Hood: Men in Tights." The Landen Lads even included a chorus line and back flips.
Landen's sister dorm, Leslie Hall went next, and successfully incorporated the Homecoming theme of "Follow the Purple Brick Road" with dancers wearing red slippers and sophomore Ashley Hodges pulling off twister ballet moves.
Beasley Hall also incorporated the Homecoming theme by dancing to the song "Ease on Down the Road."
Woody-Gott Hall performed an original rap about their dorm's superiority accompanied by a rhythm performance.
Meyer Hall used their stage time as an opportunity to introduce the student body to the football players who reside there.
After the dorms showed off their talents, the students were entertained by a short video by Unicorn Surprise Productions titled "One Up Manship." The short film starred Nathan Ross and Steve Miller.
The judges for the talent show consisted of four SBU alumni. Each resident director was given the criteria for judging beforehand which included volume/enunciation, relevance, participation, colors, spirit and entertainment factor.
The entertainment factor, or judge's preference, carried the most weight in point value.
After much deliberation, Koe revealed the judges' decision. Plaster Hall walked away with the third place prize of $50. Leslie Hall won second place for $100, and Landen won first place for $200.
