In the same sense, it was not necessary to do away with a fun water fight type game. The name was changed to "Secret Agent Week" with one of the highest turnouts since its inception. Over 95 students registered to participate setting a very high turnout in the history of the game.
Initially this year students were handed shaving cream as a means to eliminate their target. "We ended up not having enough water guns for those registered, and decided to buy shaving cream instead to further show our commitment that we want to be tasteful," said Activities Coordinator Jared Kathcart.
However as the week progressed, students were not responsible enough to clean up after themselves after shooting shaving cream.
Safety and Security was alerted by the cleaning staff of sparse but considerable areas of shaving cream remnants found around campus.
On Wednesday night, students returned with water guns, since water is much more innocuous to property than shaving cream.
Kathcart designed the new name once SGA executive cabinet decided it needed changing. "We still wanted to have a cool theme and I happened to have the best idea for the new name," said Kathcart.
Even though the shaving cream idea did not work out, at least students see the objective in the name change and the game remains popular. Freshman Brian Meusborn was delighted by the competitive fun he had this week.
"The game is stressful, but so much fun. It is a great way to put peoples' faces with names, and you will have a memory of eliminating that person," said Meusborn. When asked about the name change, Meusborn commented, "I think the name change is smart because it tones down any possible controversy."
The term secret agent has a much better connotation than an assassin would. Everyone loves secret agent James Bond, but nobody would think of Cho Seung-Hui, James Earl Ray or Sirhan Sirhan as admirable people; all were assassins.
The name change was both creative and tasteful leaving the game enjoyable. The spirit of the game remains the same under the new name, with students trying to remain the last secret agent on campus.
