The first theatre production of the 2007-2008 school year was "Improvise," a night of improvisational theatre, performed during homecoming week. The show was in the Davis-Newport Theatre at 7 p.m. on Oct. 6, following the Homecoming Football game.
The night was very informal, bearing much resemblance to the show "Whose Line is it Anyway," and kept with the tradition of improvisational theatre.
There were three teams of five for a total of 15 improvisers. The emcees were Junior Vandi Melton and dr. Elissa Sartwell, assistant professor of theater.
The first team went under the name of "The Mean Green Peas." They wore green shirts. The team was led by junior Jessica Elder, and included senior Jeremy Neumann, junior Hannah Utley, junior Kesha Wieskamp and sophomore Ashley Walker.
The second team was led by junior Chris Maples and included seniors Andy Hanson, Lindsay Neumann, sophomore Meg Parker and freshman Lauren Snedden. This team was named "Penguins Have Knees," and they wore blue shirts.
The third team was called "Red Hotz" and was led by sophomore Carly Breaux. This team wore red shirts and included junior Mike Best, sophomore Kelly Crosby, freshman Holly Stubs and senior Josh Trimble.
The night began like a sporting event.
After the teams and improvisers were introduced, the audience and participants rose to sing the national anthem after Parker set the tone with a kazoo.
The night included four rounds of competition. Each round included various games.
The first game was "First line, last line." This game involved sentences that were written by random audience members when entering the show.
The second game was "There and Back Again."
The next game was "Slide Show," a game where one group member tells a story while the other members create hypothetical still life photos to show the story.
