The annual talent show for Southwest Baptist University's 2007 Homecoming week was held Thursday Oct. 4, in Pike Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
The event was put on by the University Activities Council's Major Events Committee, which organized most of the week's events. Senior Richard Marks emceed the event.
The show's 12 acts featured instrumental performances ranging from piano and guitar to the more unusual, such as drums and a hammer dulcimer. Other acts featured singing, dancing, a magic show and a martial arts performance with nun chucks.
There was a very large crowd in the audience and Marks entertained during the transitions between the acts. Marks even placed a phone call to his unaware mother and grandmother from the stage.
The night began with senior Andy Dale performing an instrumental piece on the dulcimer, accompanied by SBU graduate Joel Ball on guitar. Sophomore Robin Thompson belted a bilingual song in Spanish and English. The show closed with David Newton's display of magic and illusions.
The show had a three faculty member panel of judges including Dr. Timothy Wood, assistant professor of History, Allison Langford, advisor at the University Success Center, and Sherri Bayer, advisor at the University Success Center.
The acts were judged on entertainment value, audience response, creativity, stage performance and judge's preference.
