Author series features Smith, Whitlock

The University Libraries of Southwest Baptist University will present the Third Annual Meet the Authors Series, Friday, Oct. 26, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in Hutchens Library on the SBU Bolivar campus.
Sharina Smith, author of "Shout for Joy: Poems from the Journey", and Dr. David W. Whitlock, author of "Opportunity: Introducing Free Enterprise and Business," will discuss their books and various aspects of their writing experiences.
Smith is senior director of marketing and communications at Southwest Baptist University and executive editor of SBU Life magazine.
According to her member profile on FaithWriters.com, "Smith's "writing has appeared in "Sisters in the Lord Magazine," "Faith Writers Magazine," "Hers Women's Magazine," "Thirty-Seven Cents," and numerous online publications."
According to singer Robin Rees, "Shout for Joy takes you on an intimate journey through the songs of sorrow to the shouts of joy that have been woven into Sharina's life. Your heart will be moved with compassion and recognition as you travel with her on this journey. Read it! Enjoy it! Read it again!"
Hosea Bilyeu, pastor of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Springfield, said that "Sharina Smith shares from her heart and her hurts. Her transparency will help fellow travelers who are struggling with this awesome and sometimes awful thing called life."
Smith earned a B.A. in English Literature from Bryn Mawr College and an M.S. in Administration with a concentration in Leadership for Women from the West Chester University of Pennsylvania School of Business and Public Affairs where she was named outstanding graduate.
She is currently pursuing an M.B.A. at SBU.
Smith and her husband Chuck have a combined family of four children and are members of South Haven Baptist Church in Springfield.
Smith sings in the Upper Chamber Singers as a soloist and in the adult choir.
Whitlock is associate provost dean College of Business and Computer Science and dean graduate and off campus programs at SBU.
