To usher in each new school year and the students it brings, returning Southwest Baptist University students, faculty and staff members hold Welcome Week.
Designed to help facilitate a smooth transition into life as members of the SBU community, Welcome Week exists to challenge new students spiritually and academically.
Though this semester is well underway, the University is already planning Welcome Week for the 2008-2009 school year. The primary leader of Welcome Week is the Steering Committee, and SBU is currently accepting applications for all steering committee positions.
According to junior Tyler Wilkins, 2008-2009 Welcome Week director, applications are now available in the Student Life Office in Goodson Student Union.
Completed applications are to be returned to the Student Life Office no later than Friday, Oct. 26. Once the application is turned in, students may sign up for an interview time.
Interviews will be held Monday, Nov. 5 through Friday, Nov. 9.
There are six steering committee positions available for students to apply for: business manager, publicity chair, brother/sister chair, support staff manager, recreation/social events chair and prayer warrior chair.
The business manager is responsible for selling ads and securing payments, general office duties, and assists in the production and publication of the Welcome Week notebook.
The publicity chair is required to have had experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop on an Apple computer. The publicity chair is primarily responsible for creating the Welcome Week notebook, designing and ordering t-shirts and managing staff photographs.
The brother/sister chair establishes the qualifications and interview processes for selection of brother and sisters.
They also plan and implement the training of brothers and sisters in coordination with the support staff manager and director.
The support staff manager plans and implements the training of support staff in coordination with the brother/sister chair and director.
