But just as SBU had been quick to answer early in the game, UCM was quick to answer Emmanuel's score late in the game.
One minute later, UCM's Hazel Cox scored, knotting the score at two.
The match would remain tied for the duration of regulation and the first overtime.
However at the 102nd minute mark freshman Jaymye Ross found the back of the net to give the Lady Bearcats the upset victory over UCM (who had previously been undefeated in MIAA play).
Lopes was brilliant in goal as Central Missouri put a total of nine shots on goal and Lopes came up with seven huge saves.
This game against Central Missouri could prove to be a huge point in SBU's season.
If the Lady Bearcats are to win the conference tournament they will likely see the University of Central Missouri again.
After two key victories, the Lady 'Cats traveled to St. Joseph to take on the Missouri Western Griffons.
Just one day after posting their biggest win of the year, the Lady Bearcats experienced a letdown as they fell to Missouri Western.
The win was only the third of the year for Western.
For the game, SBU out-shot Missouri Western 22-13 but could not finish. Their inability to score proved to be their downfall as Missouri Western's Michelle Canovi found the back of the net with just 64 seconds left in the game.
Needless to say, it was a tough loss for the Lady Bearcats after upsetting the nation's fifth-ranked team the day before.
"We out-played them for 90 minutes in every category, and they did not even get the ball out of their own half except once (the goal) in the second half," said Head Coach Benjamin Wade. "The girls were bitterly disappointed as they did everything to win except put the ball in the net. We were inches [away] on 12 occasions. It happens to the best of them, and we will be back on track on Monday."
The loss drops the Lady Bearcats to 6-3-1 in the MIAA.
The Lady Bearcats will hit the road next week and try to bounce back against Truman State on Friday.
