A cascading peach tree was chosen to honor Beasley. This tree will join other trees on the Walk of Life, which is dedicated to remembering those who were part of the SBU family.
Director of University Ministries Kurt Caddy officiated the ceremony, speaking of the Tree of Splendor found in the book of Revelation.
Caddy related the idea of a tree bearing fruit to the way Beasley lived his life.
"Kris lived an amazing life and influenced a variety of people all around the world," said Rob Harris, dean of students. "I am hopeful this tree will signify the life that Kris lived."
Following the message and dedication, Caddy read from Psalm 1, and everyone sang the first and last verses of "Amazing Grace." Caddy prayed for the remembrance of goodness and hope that our hearts trust in, in spite of grief and loss.
He prayed for the Beasley family to have rest and comfort, and for Beasley's girlfriend, senior Rebecca Cook and her family as they cope with this loss.
At the beginning of the Walk of Life on a stone where Beasley's name was added is Psalm 150:6 which says, "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord."
