Bill Jack, faculty member at Worldview Academy in Midland, Texas, dominated this week's Chapel services with his lectures on critical thinking and Biblical worldview.
Jack used politicians and movie clips to show students how to critically analyze the messages and issues students are bombarded with everyday while sprinkling in his own views on the issues discussed such as creationism vs. evolution.
Jack was also available throughout the week in Goodson Student Union to discuss ideas and answer any questions pertaining to his message in Chapel. He also mediated the showing of "V for Vendetta" Monday night. After the movie was shown in Pike Auditorium, Jack mediated a discussion among the students present about the worldviews present in the movie.
Worldview Academy is an academic camp geared towards high school students that trains students in three areas: worldview, servant leadership and evangelism and apologetics. The academy's website says that these three training areas prepare students to effectively engage the United States culture with a Biblical worldview.
Before joining the Worldview Academy faculty, Jack worked as a teacher in the public school system for 10 years. He hosts his own radio show called "Simple Tools for Brain Surgery" and has been a guest on several national radio and television programs. Jack has also worked with the creationist youth ministry Caleb Campaign.
Students reaction to Jack's message were mixed. Many embraced the idea that Christians need to critically evaluate messages, but not all agreed with Jack's personal views on the issues he used as examples.
"I did appreciate that he spoke, but I didn't agree with a lot of what he said," said senior Jordan Hodges.
"He didn't come to tell us all a 'truth' that we are to believe," said junior Tyler Wilkins. "He came to challenge us in how we believe. I think some people missed the point."
