Chapel for Monday, Nov. 26 brought a triple threat of comedy, music and devotional thoughts from Christian musician Riley Armstrong.
Armstrong, a native of Alberta, Canada, sang several of his own original songs as well as some old favorites like Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge over Troubled Waters," "Holy Ground" and a praise chorus from Psalty the Songbook.
Armstrong entertained the audience during and between songs with funny anecdotes and songs like "Cell Phone" from his 2006 album "La Loop" and a rendition of his song "Different is Beautiful" from the 2002 album "Whatever the Weather" that included the theme song from "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and "These are a Few of My Favorite Fonts."
Armstrong then turned to more serious matters with "Bridge over Troubled Water" reminding everyone that during difficult times in life Jesus is the one friend people can always count on.
Armstrong also played a concert following the men's basketball game in Goodson Student Union in conjunction with the Hot Drink Social sponsored by the University Activities Council.
This was not Armstrong's first performance at SBU, his previous performance being in 2004.
Armstrong's performance at Southwest Baptist University was one stop on his final tour. Armstrong is leaving the road to take a worship leader position in California.
