Approximately 400 students filled Goodson Student Union for free pizza, entertainment and prizes on Friday, Jan. 25.
Students competed in several games for high-dollar prizes including a television, game systems and iPods. The total cost of food and prizes was estimated at $3,000, which was taken from the student activity fee that students pay each semester to fund campus activities and clubs.
A 32-inch plasma screen television and Playstation 2 with Rockband combo caught the attention of most students in Goodson Student Union. Students enjoyed the free food as well as the entertainment.
"The Back to School Bash was a good way for returning students to see each other after the break," said senior Kim Bagley. "It was also helpful for new students to see what great variety of activities that the UAC offers."
The entertainment included playing Rockband, Pin-the-Tail-on-the-Bearcat, a rock-paper-scissors tournament and the game Simon Says.
The winners of rock-paper-scissors and Simon Says each took home an iPod nano. These winners were junior Hope Foster, sophomore Julie Dace, freshmen Jordan Hart and Liz Munnell.
Junior Jessica Elder was deemed the winner of Pin-the-Tail-on-the-Bearcat receiving an iPod Touch as her prize.
The winners of the television and Rockband were freshman Carly Shafer and senior Amanda Willcut respectively.
"The Back to School Bash seemed like a great success," said sophomore Mally Ulm. "The union was packed with students, and it was enjoyable watching different people place Pin-the-Tail-on-the-Bearcat. Yeah it may be childish, but people loved it."
The bash gave students the opportunity on returning from the long break and spend some time with friends as well as be entertained and win prizes.
"I really liked the back to school bash because it really felt like all of the students really knew each other," said freshman Sandra Falter. "The closeness was really awesome to see especially in the first week of the semester."
"I was excited to see a good showing of students," said junior Jared Kathcart, campus activities chair. "We have a lot of quality activities to look forward to this semester."
