Issue date: 2/1/08 Section: Sports
Southwest Baptist sophomore Shawn Etzenhouser has been named the MIAA Athlete of the Week for men's track.
Etzenhouser, a 5-foot-10, 145-pound sophomore from Liberty, was a part of two provisional qualifying efforts for the Bearcats at the Iowa State Open last weekend (Jan. 25-26).
Etzenhouser placed fourth in the 800-meters with a provisional qualifying time and personal best of 1 minute, 52.97 seconds. His time is the second-best clocking in Division II so far this season.
Etzenhouser also ran the 1,200-meter leg of SBU's third-place distance medley relay team, which came in at 10:04.4 (manually timed). The Bearcats were edged out of second by Butler County (Kan.) Community College in the race.
Etzenhouser is a graduate of Liberty High School and the second SBU runner to receive MIAA Athlete of the Week honors this season. Junior Michael Pierce earned the award after his performance at Kansas State earlier this year.
