The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association is pleased to announce the signing of the Marriott Kansas City Downtown as a community partner.
The facility is the official host hotel of the MIAA Basketball Championships, offering fans a special tournament rate as well as housing for all teams participating in the event.
The Marriott Downtown Kansas City, which is across the intersection from the MIAA's new headquarters, also is the home for the conference's many administrative meetings throughout the year.
"The conference has worked with the Marriott since bringing the basketball tournament to downtown Kansas City," said MIAA Commissioner Jim Johnson. "With the conference office now nearby, it seemed to make sense that we formalize and expand what has already been a great relationship. We are very excited to have the Marriott as a partner of the MIAA."
The Marriott Downtown Kansas City will have an advertising presence not only at basketball tournament events, but on the MIAA web site and at other events.
The MIAA Baseball Tournament will be held later in the spring at Community America Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.
The 2008 MIAA Basketball Championships will be the sixth to be contested at Municipal Auditorium, which has been home to more NCAA Division I Final Fours than any other arena in the country.
The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association also announced the signing of Sports Radio 810, WHB-AM, as a community partner.
Sports Radio 810 will be the official radio partner of the MIAA, providing the conference promotional opportunities with its 50,000-watt daytime signal, which extends into most of Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska.
WHB will be a large part of the MIAA Basketball Championships, producing a remote broadcast from the KC Live area of the new downtown Power & Light District Friday, March 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The remote culminates during the MIAA Rally at the Live from 2 to 6 p.m.
"Our partnership with Sports Radio 810 is a great step for the MIAA in establishing a presence in Kansas City," said Johnson. "The station's signal strength also helps our efforts in securing other partners and promoting the MIAA throughout the region, which hopefully will generate even more interest in the conference. We are thrilled to have WHB as a partner of the MIAA."
