"As gallery director, it is my goal to present a wide variety of work by artists who are active in the art community and have a history of successful participation in juried, invitational or solo exhibits," said Callahan. "I also continue to showcase local art through regular periodic showings of work by SBU students, alumni, the Polk County Artists Association and the Bolivar public school system."
The first show displayed in Driskell for the spring 2008 semester was Pam Rubert's contemporary art quilt exhibit. This show lasted from the beginning of the semester through Thursday, Feb. 14.
A watercolors exhibit replaced the quilt exhibit. The watercolors are by Lettie Blackburn, and the exhibit is called "Study in Trees." There will be a reception for "Study in Trees" from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 15. This show will remain in the gallery until March 11.
Bolivar Public Schools plan to display an exhibit in Driskell Gallery Friday, March 14 through Monday, March 31.
Wednesday, April 2 through Monday, April 28 Joan Gentry and Carol Chappell will be displaying their various works. A reception for this show has not yet been planned.
As usual the semester will finish up with the SBU Senior Art Show. This will run from Wednesday, April 30 until graduation.
Exhibits change on a monthly basis with the exception of Bolivar Public Schools who will run their show for one week.
Driskell Art Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students are encouraged to stop by and browse through the shows.
"As one of two galleries in Bolivar, the Driskell is here to educate and enrich the community and the University family," said Callahan.
