CSO began 12 years ago with a group of students who wanted to impact the Bolivar community and not just the campus.
The goal of CSO is to be an outreach ministry and reach the community with Christ-like love.
"The whole goal is to get students outside of themselves and to give opportunities to serve," said senior Stephen Cowden.
Cowden leads CSO with help from sophomores Kathleen Midgett as vice president, Crystal Jordan as secretary, and junior Micah Titterington as treasurer.
CSO has done many service projects including blood drives on campus, weekly trips to Butterfield Residential Facility to spend time with residents, regular prayer walks and special projects throughout the year.
"The special projects include drive-by rakings, Christmas projects and any other project that should come up," said Cowden.
Last Christmas the group made Christmas cookie jars and gave them to the housekeeping staff that regularly cleans the dorms and other buildings on campus.
Another event that happened during the fall was the annual drive-by rakings. Members drive around the community and find yards they can rake for free. This is a favorite event of the members every year.
Currently there are 45 members of CSO. Members are allowed to do any project that they are passionate about.
"It's up to the member of how involved they want to be," said Cowden. "They could do one project or many."
CSO has worked with the Student Government Association in the past and is willing to work with any organization on campus in order to share Christ's love with the people.
CSO is gearing up for the spring season and will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 10 in the Goodson Student Union. The next big event for the group will be a blood drive on Wednesday, April 2.
