SGA addresses concerns about icy sidewalks, parking lots on campus

Student Government Association has heard concerns regarding the icy conditions of sidewalks and parking lots on the Southwest Baptist University campus.
Areas on campus seemed to remain icy without being adequately salted or scraped.
Taking care of icy sidewalks and parking lots is not a small job, so SGA inquired at the Physical Plant regarding this issue and why the de-icing process is often hindered.
Employees at the Physical Plan rely heavily upon student staff.
Coordinating class schedules and other responsibilities of these students makes it difficult to have all the ice-chipping help needed.
Ice melt salt is intended to be used on thin layers of ice and will not totally eliminate the thick layers that have been covering campus.
There is also a shortage of ice melt salt in southwest Missouri right now. SBU has to conserve ice melt salt.
SGA would also like to recognize a couple of pleasant and hopeful differences during the Monday, Feb. 18 meeting.
Two new students attended with the intent of becoming members of SGA.
This shows interest and concern for the student body.
During the meeting, the time of open discussion became so extensive that it had to be moved to the SGA office to be completed.
At the Monday, March 3 SGA meeting, pizza was provided for all students present. Members of SGA, along with visiting students, had the chance to voice their opinions on issues and concerns. SGA would like to thank all students in attendance.
SGA holds meetings at 6 p.m. on Mondays in Goodson Student Union.
All students are welcome. Opinions, concerns and questions can be sent via email to sga@sbuniv.edu.
