After their five-game winning streak was brought to an abrupt halt by the Emporia State Hornets, the Southwest Baptist softball team looked to regain their winning form Monday when they made the trip down highway 13 to take on the Drury Panthers.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Lady 'Cats were unable to get anything going against Drury's Brittany Davis and lost 5-0. Davis stifled the Bearcats over seven shutout innings in which SBU only managed three hits.
Freshman Josie Rose picked up the loss for the Bearcats as she gave up five earned runs over six innings while striking out nine.
The second game looked to be an all-out pitcher's duel until the top half of the fifth inning. In the fifth, the Bearcats broke the game open with a walk, a sacrifice bunt, two singles, a double and a Drury error. The big hit in the inning came in the form of a two-out, two-RBI double off the bat of sophomore Alisa Klingenberg.
Also helping to lead the SBU attack was freshman Sarah Brison who added three hits including a double and two RBI's.
The five run lead proved to be plenty for Bearcat starter freshman Christy Degano as SBU held on to win by the count of 5-1.
Degano threw seven innings, giving up only one run to earn her first collegiate victory.
The Bearcats currently sit at 11-14 on the year and 2-2 in the MIAA. SBU stays on the road to play their next three conference opponents before returning home to face off with Northwest Missouri State on Apr. 18.
