SBU Theatre to perform "Night, Mother"

Southwest Baptist University's Theatre Department will perform Marsha Norman's Pulitzer-Prize winning drama, "Night, Mother," at 7 p.m. April 24-26. The production will be presented in Davis-Newport Theatre in Jester Learning and Performing Arts Center on the Bolivar main campus.
"Night, Mother" is a play about one woman's struggle with hopelessness and the desire to end her own life. In a state of determination this woman seeks to comfort her mother before making a catastrophic decision. In this play you will see the heart-breaking complexities of this woman's battle for life and for love as she contemplates a monumental end. Living with a sense of hopelessness is something that many people have experienced. When confronted with a loss of hope one can decide to overcome those feelings and move on or attempt to give up on life.
"Night, Mother" is a Student Showcase directed by Shana Christine McCoy, a theatre major from Erie, Kan. Junior Jessica Elder, a theatre and business major from St. Joseph stars as Jessie. Sophomore Kelly Crosby an intercultural studies and pre-physical therapy major from Anderson stars as Thelma.
This play involves difficult material and will be followed by a post-show discussion about suicide led by McCoy and various SBU faculty members. There will be limited seating for this production.
