Southwest Baptist University students who are fans of the hit CW show "One Tree Hill" have had the pleasure to meet a new addition to the show, Mia.
Mia is played by twenty year old singer/songwriter Kate Voegele.
Voegele has had a passion for music at an early age. By the time Voegele was in high school she had notebooks full of songs she had written.
Voegele has been on the music scene since she was 16 when she had the chance to open a concert for John Mayer and Counting Crows' 2003 Shed Tour. Since that time she has opened for artists including Dave Matthews, The Wreckers and Howie Day.
Voegele's song "I Won't Disagree" won first place in the New York Songwriter's Circle. "Only Fooling Myself" won the USA Songwriting Contest.
Voegele signed with MySpace Records in October 2006. MySpace Records is a branch from the popular MySpace website.
She currently has her debut album "Don't Look Away" available at stores nation wide. The album in stores features bonus songs that are acoustic versions of three of the songs.
The album was produced by Marshall Altman who has produced numerous albums.
The album combines a fresh twist on pop. Voegele brings crisp melodies to her lyrics. Her voice is very smooth and rich.
Many songs on the album have a blues or jazz feel, which her voice supports extremely well.
The first song on the album "Chicago" talks about leaving for Chicago. This first track has great lyrics which creates the desire to hear the rest.
She also speaks of a relationship as an old addiction that is hard to break. "Chicago" has strong guitar licks especially near the end.
"It's Only Life" talks about how mistakes should not have the effect of making someone give up. It is an encouraging tune.
"Take your hesitance and your self-defense. Leave them behind, it's only life," sings Voegele.
"I Won't Disagree" blends the bass and Voegele's rich voice into a sweet harmony. In the song, Voegele seems to be most in her element as the song has a bluesy feel to it.
Although Voegele might have her hands full with TV, she tours and promotes on the side.
Voegele is currently touring with Hanson and Stephen Kellogg through May 7.
Voegele will be touring throughout the summer with The Veronicas and Natasha Bedingfield on the Verizon VIP Tour. The tour will be making a stop in St. Louis on June 6.
Students who are not consumed by One Tree Hill should stop by Voegele's website [www.katevoegele.com] and have a listen to her songs. Listening to her songs might even make you want to watch the show as well.
