Phi Beta Lambda wins 27 awards at conference

niversity's Phi Beta Lambda chapter won 27 top-three finishes at the 49th Annual Missouri Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference held in Jefferson City March 28-29.
The conference featured competitive events for individuals and teams and the election of state officers for next year.
Twenty-one students participated in the competition. Eleven students and Rhonda Agee, PBL advisor and instructor of business administration, attended the conference.
"I am proud to report that our competitive results were once again, impressive," said Agee. "Our students entered a total of twenty events and captured 27 top-three finishes, the most of any school participating. We won first place in nine events, second place in twelve events and six third-place finishes were earned. SBU also received a fifth place chapter award for largest membership in the state with 30 members."
Competitors achieving first or second place in their events are automatically qualified to represent Missouri at the National Leadership Conference June 21-24 in Atlanta, Ga.
Attendance at this year's conference was approximately 170, representing 16 PBL chapters at post-secondary institutions throughout Missouri,

including University of Missouri-Columbia, Truman State University, Evangel University and Drury University.
The keynote speaker for the event was Andrew McCrea, host of The American Countryside, a syndicated radio program. He spoke on "Leadership in Action," this year's conference theme.
PBL is an educational association of postsecondary student members preparing for careers in business.
The individual first place winners were seniors Jarrett Finnell, Jesse Lewis and Elizabeth Lackey; juniors Tim Heimsoth and Ryan Rieder; sophomores Jacob Williams and Nathan Mersch, teams of graduate student Jason Willey and junior Stephen Miller and junior Andrew Cook and Rieder.
The second place winners were Finnell, Lackey, Cook, sophomores Andy Fulton and Matt Gibson, junior David Kellogg, senior Sean McCormack, Miller, freshmen Blayne Riffle and Natalie Schroeder and a team consisting of freshman A.J. Conner, Riffle and Schroeder.
Third place awards were given to Mersch, junior Stephen Boniello, graduate student Jan Henbest and senior Brian Netherton.
