Southwest Baptist University faculty and staff along with local firefighters and emergency personnel work together to consolidate the facts after numerous cabinets in Wheeler Science Center crashed to the floor, spilling chemicals. Emergency personnel were on the scene for several hours Tuesday afternoon and into the evening. Classes in the Wheeler building were canceled Wednesday morning, but resumed Wednesday afternoon after the spill was cleaned up.

Students with classes in Wheeler Science Center took the morning off Wednesday, April 30 while Sunbelt Environmental Systems completed cleanup of a chemical spill.
No one was injured after several cabinets fell off a wall spilling a potentially noxious cocktail of chemicals onto the floor of an unoccupied lab.
Southwest Baptist University security officers were called at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 after staff smelled an unusual odor, opened the door to room 103 and found the fallen cabinets. The building was evacuated as the Bolivar police, fire department and an ambulance responded.
SBU officials activated the University's E-2 system notifying students, faculty and staff of the cancellation of morning classes in Wheeler.
Sunbelt Environmental Systems cleared the area of any chemical contamination, but the lab will require some remodeling, including replacing tiles, baseboards and, of course, cabinets.
University officials do not yet know why the cabinets fell, but an investigation is expected.
