As seniors graduate in May, The Omnibus editorial staff will experience an overhaul.
As News Editor senior Liz Hood graduates, senior Nathan St. Clair will take on her responsibilities designing and editing the news section of The Omnibus.
St. Clair's interest in journalism was sparked after taking a Special Topics in Journalism class taught by Dr. Josh Compton, chair of the Department of Communication Arts.
"That class showed me that change can happen through journalism, not just through politics and lawmakers," said St. Clair. "Learning that got me interested."
St. Clair, a Communications major with a journalism concentration with a love of reading and hiking, is looking forward to making an impact in his new role.
"I'm looking forward to making sure students are getting the news that they need and learning from the things they read," said St. Clair. "I'm also looking to gain some experience with the newspaper."
As current photo editor junior Grace Jeoung takes over The Omnibus's ad design position, sophomore Laura O'Connor will take her place as the new photo editor.
O'Connor is an English Education major from St. Charles and enjoys photography as a hobby.
She has worked as a photographer for her high school paper and has served as Beasley Hall's photographer for the past year.
"I'm looking forward to capturing events on campus and presenting them in a memorable way," said O'Connor.
As In the Spotlight editor junior Nicole Heitmann takes over the Gallery section, freshman Tricia Coor will gain some experience stepping into the In the Spotlight editorship.
Coor, coming to SBU from Newton, Kan., hopes that gaining experience at The Omnibus will help her as she pursues a career in journalism after college.
"I want to get experience and get involved in journalism," said Coor. "I figured since this is what I want to do with my life I need to start somewhere."
Majoring in Communications with an emphasis in journalism, Coor would like to someday edit a magazine or run a publication for a mission organization.
"I really want to travel," said Coor. "Anything having to do with travel would be fine with me."
Current Forum editor sophomore Brendan Block will be taking over for senior Charlotte Holman as Managing Editor.
The Forum editor position is still available for any Southwest Baptist University student interested in gaining experience in journalism and leadership.
The Omnibus is also looking for an enthusiastic person to take on the position of Ad Sales manager.
Writers and photographers are always welcome to join The Omnibus staff.
Anyone interested in any of the available positions should contact Jessica Oliver, Editor-In-Chief, at jo000007@sbuniv.edu or call 328-1833.
