"Improvise 2: A Night of Improv" took place Thursday, May 1 in Davis-Newport Theatre. This was an encore of the improv night that took place last semester during homecoming, and similar to the show "Whose Line Is it Anyway?" junior Amy Whitehead and sophomore Becca Koe emceed the event while junior Kristy Schick kept track of the score. Three teams (blue, pink and yellow) battled it out to be named the improv champions.
Judging the event were Dr. Josh Compton, assistant professor and department chair of communication arts; Dr. Elissa Sartwell, assistant professor of theatre, and junior Jessica Griffin.
The night began with a few warm up games including "What are you doing?" and "Props." Round one consisted of having two members from each team play. junior Mike Best and sophomore Hannah Utley represented yellow; junior Jessica Elder and senior Ryan Rieder represented pink, and Stephen Jenkins and sophomore Kelly Crosby represented blue.
In round two the yellow and blue teams drew the game "There and Back Again" while the pink team drew "Slideshow." In the third round, the yellow team drew "Superhero Eulogy" while the other teams drew "Story, Story, Die." After this round the blue team was eliminated based on the points earned by each team.
The yellow and pink teams battled it out in the improv game entitled "Gibberish Chain Murder." Within the game, each member speaks in gibberish while explaining where they are, an activity they are doing and the item that will kill them. Once the fellow member understands what is going on, he kills the one that explained it and another member enters the scene. The object is to have the correct information passed down to each team member.
With the score very close, the pink team won the night by two points. The event was packed full of funny situations and involved audience participation as well. There was never a game that was not funny, and the team members worked hard to make everyone laugh. Look for the next improv in the fall.
