With the end of the semester fast approaching, many students will have a free schedule to hang out with friends, travel somewhere fun or catch up on a hobby. For many, summer means movies. There is a long list of anticipated summer releases coming to a theatre near you. Here are some of the movies that I believe will be big hits through the summer.
In May, two movies are coming out that will bring in the money to the box office. The second installment of the "The Chronicles of Narnia" comes out May 16. "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" brings the Pevensie siblings back to Narnia, where thirteen hundred years have passed since their last travels into the magical kingdom. Since their last encounter into the wardrobe, the siblings find that King Miraz, an evil king now controls Narnia, and his nephew Prince Caspian tries to save the kingdom with the help of Aslan and the Pevensie siblings.
On May 23, Indiana Jones will return after twenty years in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." Stephen Spielberg and George Lucas team up once again as director and producer while Harrison Ford retakes his role of playing the adventurous archeologist, Jones. Other actors include Karen Allen, John Hurt, Cate Blanchett and Shia LaBeouf who round out the cast to create an ultimate adventure. Allen played Marion Ravenwood in the first 1981 Jones' film "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Although there is not much information about the movie, it seems that this one will be a huge box office hit.
Bruce Banner, played by Edward Norton, will have to find a cure for the gamma radiation that has turned his life upside down. The movie "The Hulk" will release June 13 in which Banner must find a cure while he avoids General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt) and pines for his love, Betty Ross (Liv Tyler). All three must confront The Abomination (Tim Roth) who has more power than the Hulk himself.
On June 20, Steve Carell plays the role of Maxwell Smart, an inexperienced spy, in the movie "Get Smart." Smart gets teamed up with Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) a veteran spy to thwart the evil plan of KAOS to dominate the whole planet. This movie is based off the 1960s-era comedy series by Mel Brooks. It should be a great comedy as moviegoers see Carell play the inexperienced spy who is awkward on the field.
