For the concluding article in the Seven Strategic Initiatives series, both Initiative Six and Seven will be featured.
These two initiatives focus on separate but very important areas of the Southwest Baptist University campus.
Initiative Six is a plan for improved financial health.
It states that SBU, "will design a plan for improved financial health that is integrated within and responsive to strategic planning.
"This plan will align annual and five-year budgeting to strategic planning and will promote the use of a comprehensive financial analysis of all programs."
This initiative has four goals that will help execute the plan. These goals are to make a five-year financial projection, prioritize annual budget funding, increase expendable net assets of SBU and apply a financial analysis of all programs.
David Whitlock, dean of the college of business and computer science, was appointed as the chair of a sub-committee formed to prioritize and recommend particular goals and objectives to the University Planning Advisory Council.
The sub-committee consists of Whitlock; David Bolton, director of administrative computing; John Credille, registrar; and Ron Maupin, vice president for administration.
As a group, the committee recommended to begin action on Goals One, Three and Four. The first goal will require a software package being purchased or developing a template.
"This goal requires that by Spring 2010 this system will be fully implemented and before that can happen considerable research, testing and software purchases or template development must occur," said Whitlock.
Goal Three relates to the specific funding priorities of SBU being identified.
The University is already working on prioritizing the needs across campus.
The last objective that correlates with Goal Four is to implement full cost accounting program.
"This objective will largely be accomplished through our University Administration and accounting professionals and relates to accreditation requirements and auditing requirements that will help the University better allocate and determine the cost for individual programs, cost centers and specific SBU location such as our Salem and Mountain View campuses," said Whitlock.
