Obscure sports get some attention

This time of year the athletic world focuses on two sports: football and basketball. But for those of you who are not particularly fond of these two activities, we diverge from the norm and give you some updates on other sports you're probably not too concerned with either.

Gators tear up opponents under Meyer's lead

Everything head coach Urban Meyer seems to touch turns to gold, including this comeback season. Starting with his tenure with the University of Utah Utes and an undefeated season in 2004, Meyer joined up with the University of Florida Gators in 2005. In 2006, Meyer's Gators won the Tostito's BCS National Championship game against the Ohio State Buckeyes 41-14.

Volleyball drops final games to end season, 13-18

The Lady Bearcats ended the season with two losses, one to Missouri Southern 2-3 and a second to Pittsburg State 0-3. The Bearcats ended the season with an overall record of 13-18. The Bearcats had a tough season, during which some team members racked up some impressive statistics.

Lady Bearcats start season with solid victory, 77-64

On Saturday J.C. Carter celebrated his first victory as head coach of women's basketball at Southwest Baptist University. The Bearcats traveled to Tahlequah and defeated the Northeastern Oklahoma State Riverhawks 77-64. Senior Courtney Creed led the Bearcats in scoring with 19 points.

Bearcats seek Division-II dominance

Well, SBU football is over, which means college basketball is here. This season our men's basketball team has been ranked 12th in the NABC Preseason Coaches' poll, and they are ranked sixth in the nation in the "Sporting News College Basketball Yearbook." The Bearcats are the returning regular season MIAA champions.

Team leaders make NBA worth watching

Here in the fall months, sports fans have plenty to get excited about. The NASCAR season is coming to a close with the domination of Jimmie Johnson, the NFL is in full swing, although fans in Missouri don't have much to cheer about with the failures of the Rams and the Chiefs.
